Carl Maca, age 52, of Columbus died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his home in Columbus.

Carl Martin Maca was born November 16, 1959 in Tomah, Wisconsin to Louis and Irene (Hughes) Maca. He grew up in Moline, Ilinois as the fourth of ten children. At the age of 13, his family moved to Columbus. He attended Scotus and graduated in 1978. After high school he attended UNL, then moved to Colorado to enjoy skiing, mountain clmbing and the great outdoors. Carl returned to Columbus, eventually becoming a long time employee for R&S Track Maintenence where he enjoyed working with several of his long time friends. Carl was wed to Kathy Curran on May 25, 1990, to this union a son Matthew was born and joined his brother Trent and sister Robyn Schacher. Carl was a very competitive athlete. He enjoyed playing basketball, golf, pool, bowling and running. He attended the annual Scotus Alumni tournaments with his many friends and also participated in the Downtown Runaround. He took many spring trips to St. Louis to watch his beloved Cardinals play. His faith in God was always strong throughout his life, and he was very thankful for his many blessings and kept his sense of humor throughout his sickness until the end. He was surrounded by family and friends in his death. His faith helped him battle cancer for many years until he was finally laid to rest in the palms of God.
