Calvin R. Wagner, age 94, entered his heavenly life on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Monday July 1, 2024 at the Federated Church in Columbus. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Visitation is Monday 9:30 a.m. until service time at the Federated Church. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery at a later date.
Calvin Roger Wagner was born September 13, 1929 in McLaughlin, South Dakota to Albert and Lillian (Schlabs) Wagner. In 1950 Calvin entered the Army and served in the 127th Airborne Division. He made 8 jumps in the service and 3 jumps as a civilian. Calvin was very talented at fixing things and working on different machines. He was the media technician for the Columbus Public School for 18 years and also taught welding classes for the Central Community College. Calvin stated that his greatest gift was seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls. Calvin was united in marriage to Alison Mihulka on October 7, 1989 at the Federated Church. He enjoyed traveling with Alison on bus trips, camping, dancing and caring for his beloved dogs, Duke, Kokoe, Muffin and Cali. He had a passion for motorcycles. His first one being an Indian and his last one being a Goldwing. His sense of humor was one of the things Alison enjoyed the most. Calvin would say the funniest things, which usually contained a lot of truth. He was a member of Federated Church for over 45 years, the Masonic Mizpah Lodge #320 in Omaha and The American Legion Hartman Post #84.
Calvin is survived by his wife: Alison Wagner, son: Steve (Marisue) Wagner, granddaughter: Amie (Bruce) Lassek, grandson: Daniel (Brenda) Wagner, granddaughter: Misty Binau, great grandchildren: Abbie Lassek and Jack Lassek, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Steve and Kristi Wilch, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Darold and his parents: Albert and Lillian Wagner, granddaughter-in-law: Erin Wagner.
Memorials are suggested to the Federated Church or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
