Burnell J. Witt, 74, of Columbus died Wednesday February 6, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:00 am Saturday, February 9 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Friday at St. Bonaventure Church with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning from 9-10 am at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Burnell J. Witt was born March 18, 1927 to Arnold & Ida (Woerth) Witt. He attended a rural grade school near Scribner and graduated from Guardian Angel High School in West Point, NE. He married Margaret Knobbe at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey, NE, on August 25, 1948. Burnell farmed 3 years in West Point and then 10 years in Howells. He moved to Columbus in 1961 and sold insurance for Frankllin Life Insurance Company. In 1965 he bought 155 acres of bare land 7 miles south of Columbus and started Witt Feed Yard as well as continuing to farm. Burnell is a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 57 year member of the Knights of Columbus where he is a 4th degree member, active in perpetual adoration, lifetime member of Sertoma where he was past-president, member of the Platte Valley Cattleman, Nebraska Cattlemen, and the National Cattlemen's Association.
