Bonnie Lamay Nelson

May 3, 1923 — April 15, 2017

Bonnie LaMay Nelson was born May 3, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of George Edward and Ethel (Brown) Strayer. She died April 15, 2017 in Genoa, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday and from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Friday all at Augustana Lutheran Church. Services will be held on Friday April 21, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa, with Pastor Joshua Feala officiating. Organist is Anne Peterson and pallbearers include Dan Strayer, Brad Strayer, David Nelson, Dan Nelson, Russ Nelson, Tim Nelson and Scott Andreasen. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

Bonnie attended Lincoln Public Schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1941. She worked as a secretary at KFOR/KFAB radio in Lincoln. It was there that she met Elmer Nelson when he was hired in 1944 as an engineer. They were married in Lincoln on February 24, 1945. Elmer passed away in February 2011 and was buried on their 66th anniversary. They had three daughters – Judy, Barbara and Pam.

Bonnie and Elmer lived in Lincoln until 1960 when he became the Chief Engineer of KRGI radio and they moved to Grand Island. Then in 1977 Elmer began working as an engineer for Nebraska Public Television and they moved west to Sutherland, Nebraska. In 2006 they moved to Genoa, Elmer's hometown.

Bonnie enjoyed traveling, Nebraska history, casinos, listening to music, and she was an avid reader.

She is survived by two daughters – Judy K. Nelson of Genoa and Barbara Ambrose of St. Paul, Nebraska, two grandsons – Phillip (Marina) Ambrose and David (Chelsea) Ambrose, both of Arizona, sister-in-law Jean Schmitt of Columbus, and brother-in-law Homer (Pat) Nelson of Genoa, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, daughter Pam, son-in-law Carl Ambrose, her brother and his wife Bob and Linda Strayer, brothers-in-law Eldon Nelson, Edmund Nelson and his wife Melva, and Carrol Schmitt.

Memorials are suggested "In Care of the Family".
