Bobby E. Nickels, age 90, of Columbus, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at his home in Columbus.
Bobby was born July 29, 1924 in Dunnegan, Missouri to Lawrence and Nellie (Dixon) Nickels. He graduated from Fairplay High School in 1942. Bobby served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946 where he received a Silver Star, 3 Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart. On April 19, 1946 he married Mary Rempel in Henderson, Nebraska. In 1968 they moved to Columbus from York, Nebraska. Bobby worked for the gas company until his retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3704, American Legion Post #84, D.A.V, and Amvets. Bobby was one the first groups to go on the Honor Flights for WWII veterans.

Son: Robert Nickels of Freeport, IL
Daughter: Mary (Duane) Otte of Columbus
Brother: Ted (Vicki) Nickels of Stockton, MO
Sister-in-law: Amy Nickels of El Dorado, KS
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Willie.
