Betty Latham

Betty Schmit Latham, age 86, died Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. until service time Friday, all occurring at the Church. Interment will be at Ss. Peter's & Mary's -Presentation Cemetery in rural Bellwood.

Betty was born October 30, 1937 to Joseph and Mary Agnes (King) Neyens in Lemars, Iowa and grew up in Creighton, Ne where she attended St. Ludgers Academy. She also attended Wayne State College and taught school before marrying Harold Schmit in January of 1957. To this union three children were born.

After Harold passed away she married Omer Latham and lived in Sun City, AZ for 24 years.

Betty enjoyed watching sports and following the Huskers. She also enjoyed pottery, golf, and tennis. She volunteered at the Sun City library for several years. After returning to Columbus she volunteered at Simon House and Columbus Community Hospital. She did a lot of traveling, her favorite being the wine country in California and coastal resorts.

Betty is survived by her son Jeff (Amy), her daughters Gina and Janet Schmit.
Grandchildren- Cassie (Mark) Chohon and Ryan (Alecia) Schmit.
Great grandchildren- Hanna and Noah Chohon, McKensie and Jaxon Schmit.
Brothers- Larry (Betty) Neyens, Robert Neyens
Sisters- Donna Vice and Larita Rayer
