Betty Jo Kolm age 61 of Columbus passed away on July 20, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

Betty Jo was born in Omaha on February 10, 1948. She was adopted in 1956 by Mildred and Jerome Spulak of Schuyler.

Betty Jo attended Colfax County Schools and graduated from Schuyler Central High School in 1966. She graduated from St. Joseph 's College of Hair Design before returning for a short time to the Schuyler area. Betty Jo was united in marriage to Dennis Kolm on April 11, 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. The made their home in Columbus.

Betty Jo held a few jobs in her lifetime, but perhaps would best be remembered for her friendly smile at Joe & Al's Supermarket and the old HyVee Store where she worked for many years. She enjoyed seeing people in the community and would take time to visit with strangers and friends alike as they came through her line.

When illness began to take a toll on Betty Jo she enjoyed staying home and pursuing her love for reading. Betty Jo was an avid reader all her life and it was something in which she found pleasure. She loved cats and was a good pet owner to a number of feline friends over the years.

Mother: Mildred Spulak of Schuyler, NE
Daughter: Christina (Brian) Bywater of Schuyler, NE
Grandsons: Connor & Gavin Bywater of Schuyler, NE
Sister: Cora Boyce of Omaha, NE
Sister: Jean Beat of Lakeview, AR

Her father, Jerome Spulak, preceded her in death in 1986.
