Betty Hiemer, 62, of Columbus lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday; August 23, 2003 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Del Lape will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A vigil will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday evening also at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Betty was born May 24, 1941 in Platte County to Howard & Evelyn (Sprunk) Gleeson. She lived on a farm south of Duncan and attended School District #16. She moved with her family to a farm in the Monroe area and graduated from Monroe High School. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Myron G. Hiemer on November 29, 1968 in Columbus. She worked for Consumers Public Power (now NPPD) in various positions for several years. She then worked for R. W. Beck, Inc. for 32 years in various administrative positions until July 31, 2002. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Troy (Debbie) Hiemer of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Tammi (Rich) Hayes of Osceola; one stepson, Todd Hiemer of Lincoln; grandsons, Nathan and Kyle Hiemer, Nolan Hayes; granddaughters, Natalie Murphy and Tasha Hayes; one brother, Gerald (Karen) Gleeson of Monroe; brother-in-law, Willard (Loyola) Hiemer of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Janet Hiemer and Coleen Agena of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William; one sister, Janice Walsh.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, St. Anthony Catholic Church or the donor's choice.
