Bettie Mabee

Bettie Belle Mabee passed away December 11, 2019 in Columbus Nebraska. Bettie was born on April 23, 1930 in Guthrie, OK to Earnest and Eliza Belle (Hayes) Stewart.

She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1948. Settling in Las Vegas eventually starting with Central Telephone and Utilities (Centel) in 1962 as a Customer Service Rep, working her way to Supervision. In 1975 when women in management were somewhat rare, she accepted a Regional Management position with the gas division, Cengas in Columbus Nebraska. In 1980 returning to Centel, she accepted a position in Corporate Management in Chicago Illinois. After a successful career in management she "retired" to a second successful career in real estate in Schaumberg, IL. In 2005 she retired "for good" from the workforce. Throughout her career she was active with various organizations, American Business Women's Association (ABWA), Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement to name a few.

An amazing mother, G-ma, and G-Gma, Bettie taught her children and grandchildren to appreciate all that life had to offer including fine dining, great shopping, relaxing at the spa and spending time with family. Always one to whip up a cake and fry up a chicken for visitors. Her recipes will be cherished memories. Bettie was an avid bowler, golfer and loved to cheer on her favorite football teams. An Oklahoma fan at heart, she also cheered for the Huskers to keep her Nebraska family happy. With her daughter residing in Switzerland for 24 years, she was able to spend a great deal of time traveling to Europe and other countries.

Bettie is survived by her son, Steve; 3 Grandchildren: Erin Callahan (Rob) of Woodbury Minnesota, Steven Mabee (Sara) of Columbus Ne. and Rhiannon Crumley (Stephen) of Cleveland Tennessee, 7 great-grandchildren and close friends Vonda, Patti, Bonnie, her walking partner Donna and Whootsit a.k.a. Whats her bucket- Deb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lorene; brothers, Outher and Olin; daughter, Debra Mabee Knobel; daughter-in-law, Kara Mabee.
