Obituary

Bethel Jean (Norris) Powers, 98, of Silver Creek, Nebraska, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 7, 2026, just two months shy of her 99th birthday.

Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Visitation is Friday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Interment is in Silver Creek Cemetery.

Bethel was born on January 4, 1928, on the family farm in Polk County, Nebraska, to Ray E. and Lillian (Barker) Norris. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then attended Silver Creek High School.

On October 26, 1947, Bethel married Robert “Bob” Lisco Powers at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The couple made their home in Silver Creek and shared 60 years of marriage before Bob’s passing on November 19, 2007.

Bethel was a homemaker who took great pride in caring for her home and family. She kept an immaculate house and enjoyed long walks in the country, taking time to appreciate the beauty of nature. She dearly loved her six grandchildren and welcomed each great-grandchild who joined the family with that same love.

Bethel is survived by her children, Robert James Powers and his wife, Beverly, of Columbus; Jackie Gavlik of Amarillo, Texas; and Jeanne Tworek and her husband, Edward, of Omaha; six grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; and her brother, Virgil Norris of Duncan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her parents, Ray and Lillian Norris.
