Bernard "Bernie" Zoucha, age 93, of Columbus died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.
Bernie Zoucha was born February 9, 1921 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Joe E. and Cecelia (Torczon) Zoucha. He received his early education in Tarnov, Nebraska and graduated in 1939 from St. Francis High School in Humphrey. Bernie farmed in his early years and later worked for Platte County and the City of Columbus. As a young man, he enjoyed his horses, with Blacky being his favorite. Other hobbies included; bowling, golfing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, trading cars and dancing. Many people would be surprised to learn that Bernie was an outstanding left-handed baseball pitcher. He was a member of St. Anthony Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #938.
