Bernard Laska

Bernard J. Laska, age 77, of Columbus, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Bernard J. Laska was born July 24, 1937 to Leo and Genevieve (Scheidts) Laska in Duncan, Nebraska. He graduated from Duncan High School and received his associated degree in business. He married Kandence Muller On June 30, 1973 in Central City. Bernard drilled water wells for Laska Well Digging Co. before working at Becton Dickinson for a short time. He was an over the road truck driver for 35 years for various companies including Crete Contract Carriers, Fischer Transport Inc., Double O and Hilt. He had a road map of the U.S. in his head. Many drivers called him to get the best route to where they were going. He earned several President Safe Driving Awards. Bernard served 3 terms on the Nebraska Road Team going to schools and different organizations teaching road safety. He participated in the Nebraska Truck Driving Rodeo. He loved trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching college football. He was a member of the Word Of Life Church. His granddaughter Sarah was the apple of his eye. Bernard loved spending time with his family.
