Bernard "Bernie" Heinsohn, 83, of Columbus died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.
Bernard Bernie C. Heinsohn was born August 9, 1927 in Rogers, NE to Charles and Clara (Hron) Heinsohn. He grew up in Colfax County and graduated from Schuyler High School. He entered the US Navy and served in World War II from 1945-1949. On November 3, 1950, Bernie married Shirley Nelson in Norfolk. They lived in Columbus and Schuyler where Bernie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. Bernie then started driving truck for Kohler Transfer. He returned to Columbus where he continued in the trucking industry at Burlington Motor Freight and later on at Bee Line until retiring in the mid 80s. He enjoyed baseball and maintaining his yard. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Hartman Post #84 American Legion where he served on the Honor Guard and was a recipient of the Keith Bryan Award, and VFW Post 3704.

3 Grandchildren: Jared Schaecher, Ryan Schaecher, and Amy Lara
4 Great Grandchildren: Izabella, Derek, and Marcus Beltran, Joselyn Lara
