Bernadine "Bernie" Mary (Pfeifer) Boesch, 91, of Columbus, NE, died Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Heritage at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.
Bernie was born May 2, 1926 in Humphrey to Rochus and Caroline (Foltz) Pfeifer. She graduated from St. Francis High School, and married Jerry Boesch on June 10, 1947. In addition to being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Bernie held several jobs outside the home. She worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Bellevue, NE during World War II. She was also employed at Kelloggs Company in Omaha, BD in Columbus, the Columbus Horse Races and assisted in the library at St. Francis Elementary School in Humphrey for many years.
A lifetime member of St. Francis Church, Bernie belonged to the St. Francis Christian Mothers and the St. Francis Quilting Ladies. She was an excellent seamstress, and her family and friends could always count on her for their sewing and mending needs. She spent countless hours making quilts and scrubbies for family and friends. An excellent baker, she was famous for her cinnamon twists, homemade bread and Christmas toffee.
Bernie is survived by her six children and their spouses: Carolyn (Jerry) Wemhoff of Grand Island; Jim (Beth Widhalm) Boesch, Deb (Dick) Fischer, and Sheryl (John) Krings, all of Columbus; Dan (Jeanne Pfeifer) Boesch of Fremont, and Michelle (Tim) Meyer of Cornlea; brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Margaret Pfeifer of Omaha; Brother Roch Pfeifer, OFM, of Manitowoc, WI; sister, Thelma Veik of Madison; brother-in-law Gene Labenz and sister-in-law Mary Alice Pfeifer, both of Humphrey; 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rochus and Caroline Pfeifer, husband of 49 years Jerry Boesch, sisters Florence Pfeifer, Sister Helen Ann Pfeifer, OSF, and Eileen Labenz; brothers Bill and Melvin Pfeifer; brother-in-law Art Veik, sister-in-law Edna Pfeifer and grandson Shawn Patrick Boesch.
