Ben M. Nosal, 85, of Columbus died Monday, November 26, 2007 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Thursday, November 29 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation is on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Thursday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Isidore Church or to the family.
Benedict M. "Ben" Nosal was born August 26, 1922 in Tarnov, Nebraska to Michael and Barbara (Korus) Nosal. He grew up in Columbus where he attended St. Anthony's Catholic Grade School and graduated in 1940 from St. Bonaventure High School. Ben moved to California in 1941 where he was employed by Bank of America for 10 years. In 1951 he joined Safeway Stores where he was employed in various capacities throughout Southern California. He retired in 1982 after 31 years in the retail grocery industry. Ben married Virginia Fiedler Furst on May 30, 1960 in Santa Fe Springs, CA. In 1983, Ben and his wife bought a cabin on a lake near Bellwood, NE where they spent their summers enjoying the lake and visiting family and friends. They would spend their winters at their home in Banning, CA. In November 2006, Ben and Virginia relocated to Columbus to be near family. Ben was a member of St. Isidore's Church and the Holy Name Society. He was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, loved to travel, and enjoyed cruises. Ben was also well versed on any make or model of car.
