Barbara Mary Melliger, 87, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at Prairie Village on Monday, May 9, 20ll.
Services will be held at l:00p.m. on Thursday at St. Bonaventure Church. Her ashes will be buried at the parish cemetery. Coffee and cake will be served at the Parish Center afterwards.
There will be a rosary held at 7p.m on Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home.
Barbara was born April 25, l924 in Platte County, Nebraska to Henry and Mary (Kuhlen) Schumacher, and spent her early years on a farm northwest of Platte Center. After moving to Columbus, she received her education at St. Bonaventure School and graduated in l942.
On October 2, l948, she married Warren Melliger at St. Bonaventure Church. Barb was a beautician and operated her own beauty shop for many years. She also worked 25 years at J.C. Penney's. She was a life-long member of St. Bonaventure Church, and belonged to the Perky Debs Extension Club.
Barb and "Mel" loved traveling to faraway places, especially Europe and Hawaii. "Mom" also enjoyed cooking, knitting, quilting, gardening, and winning at cribbage.
Survivors include her sons Craig (Judy) Melliger of Columbus and Curt Melliger of Hesperus, Colorado; daughter, Debra (Ron) Getchell of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren, Russ (Celia) Getchell, Natalie Getchell, and Brenda (Tim) Boswell; and four great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren Melliger; son, Bruce Melliger; sisters, Viola Bennett, Rose Ritterbush, and Germaine Martinez; and brother, Dave Schumacher.
