Barbara Ellen Andreasen passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.

Funeral services are pending at Augustana Church in Genoa. 

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. 

Barbara was born on December 5, 1957, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Eldon Burling and Marilyn Jacobitz. She grew up on the family farm near Heartwell, Nebraska, and spent her childhood and young adult years in the Heartwell and Kenesaw communities. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1976.

On September 7, 1984, Barbara married Richard Andreasen in O’Neill, Nebraska. Together they shared more than 40 years of marriage and built a loving family with their two children.

Barbara dedicated many years of service as a Medication Aide at Genoa Medical Facilities before retiring. She took pride in caring for others and formed many lasting friendships throughout her years there.

Above all else, Barbara treasured her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Andreasen; her daughter, Samantha (Kory) Andreasen; her son, Andrew Andreasen; and her beloved grandson, Jordan Kling, who shared Barbara’s birthday—a gift she often said was the best she had ever received. She is also survived by her sisters, Beth (Doug) Fotinos and Brenda (Mitch) Stocker, sister in laws Deanna (Tom) Spulak and Lori (Alan) Werner, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon Burling and Marilyn Dittrick; her brother, Robert Burling; her grandparents, Gus and Alma Jacobitz and Erwin and Thelma Burling; her parents-in-law, Veryl Andreasen and Mary Peterson and her husband, Richard Peterson; and her niece, Trina Christensen.

Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
