Arlene Thomas

Arlene Thomas, 94 of Columbus died February 5, 2023 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 4-6 p.m at the McKown Funeral Home. A family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Arlene, daughter of Martin and Amalia (Simonsen) Kahland was born on September 8, 1928 in Antelope County. She attended country grade schools and graduated from Tilden High School at the age of 14, and acquired certification  to begin teaching at rural grade schools in the Oakdale Tilden area. On October 11, 1945, in Las Vegas, Arlene was united in marriage to Raymond Thomas, and to this union they had two children, Ron and Janelle. In 1958 they moved the family to Columbus where Arlene acquired a secretarial position at a steel company. She later took the position of Director of Finance and Accounting for the City of Columbus.

Survivors include her son Ron (Janie) Thomas and her daughter Janelle Barker both of Columbus. Seven grandchildren, Collin (Lisa) Thomas of Surprise, Arizona, Rachel (Jeff) Kraft of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carmen (Greg) Peters of Zionsville, Indiana, Mark Newberg of Columbus, Nebraska, Lisa Shackelford of Kansas City, Missouri, Travis Barker of Nevada, Missouri, and Casey (Jimmy) Crews of Nevada, Missouri, eighteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Thomas, six brothers and five sisters, and son-in-law, Lynn Newberg
