Amanda passed away at home on January 23, 2026 with her loving family by her side.

A Celebration of Amanda's Faith and Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 30 at McKown Funeral Home with Celebrant Chase Cherry. Family will receive friends from Noon until service time.

Amanda was born in Neu-Isenburg, Germany on April 20th, 1940. She met her future husband Robert on a blind date in March of 1958. Bob was serving in the US Air Force, stationed at Rhein-main Air Force Base. Although Bob could not speak German and Amanda could not speak English, their loved bloomed and flourished. They were married on the base in Germany on November 29, 1958. The couple moved back to Bob's hometown of Columbus, NE in May of 1960.

Amanda later learned to speak English by watching television. Amanda worked at Becton-Dickinson and retired after many years at Torin.

Amanda is survived by her husband Robert Messersmith of Columbus, her sister Susi Phillips of Port Charlotte, FL, her four children; Larry Messersmith of Columbus, Patty (Derrick Barr) of Crofton, Pamela (Daniel) Windle of Columbus, and Terry (Jen) Messersmith of Lincoln. She was a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Amanda loved gardening and collecting Hummels, she also had a profound love for all animals. She also loved traveling back to her home country of Germany.

Having her family all together, surrounded with love, was most precious to her. Family was her life
