Alvina Schumacher, age 79, of Columbus died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at her home in Columbus.
Alvina Marie (Foltz) Schumacher was born on March 16, 1935 at St. Marys Hospital in Columbus to Paul and Jean (Wemhoff) Foltz. She was raised in the St. Anthony Platte Center area, graduated in 1952 from Platte Center High School, and attended Wayne State Teachers College. She taught in rural Platte County and 6th grade at St. Bonaventure School. On July 31, 1956 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Schumacher at St. Anthonys Church in rural Platte Center.
She loved gardening, canning, baking, embroidering, playing the piano, and being with her children and grandchildren always following their athletic and other activities. She and LeRoy enjoyed riding in his pickup checking out the crops during summer. She loved to travel with LeRoy and her family and had seen all 50 states. Neighborhood coffee and bus tours were among her favorite pastimes. Alvina belonged to St Isidore Catholic Church, where she co-managed the gift shop for 38 years, helped with Meals on Wheels, funeral dinners, bulletins, did errands for the elderly, and was an officer in the parish Christian Mothers organization. She was on the Mardi Gras Committee for 10 years, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and spent 30 years on the St. Isidore hospital ministry.
Her most valued gift in life was her passion for her Catholic faith, which she instilled in her children. For many years she attended daily Mass and often prayed the Rosary, granting many blessings to her family and friends. She was a beautiful person, a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

Seven grandchildren: Katie, Drew, Grant, Erin, Nicole, Sarah, Nathan.
Sisters: Lu (Laverne) Torczon of Columbus, Fran Ward, Bernie Renken and Cleo Nienaber of Omaha
She was preceded in death by husband, LeRoy, and parents, Paul and Jean Foltz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Isidore Church, Scotus High School or donor's choice.
