Alvin &Quot;Bud&Quot; Siemek, Jr.

March 6, 1926 — July 1, 2015

Alvin "Bud" Siemek, Jr. died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bud was born March 6, 1926 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Alvin Sr. and Leona (Wetovick) Siemek. He grew up in Fullerton, spending many summers at his cousins farms. Bud was drafted in early 1944 and trained in Camp Stewart, GA and Camp Hood, TX before serving in the South Pacific as a Staff Sergeant in the 127th Infantry Regiment. During his service with the Occupation Army in Japan, he was hospitalized for weeks with malaria, yellow fever, and jungle fever from his time in the jungles of Luzon with the 127th. Bud recovered and remembered being within a few feet of General Eisenhower when Ike toured General MacArthur's Supreme Headquarters in Japan.

Bud returned from Japan in 1948, and helped his father build and remodel houses around Fullerton. He met his future bride (Marcella Rose "Marcie" Korger of Shelby) near Columbus at a dance. They were married in May, 1950. In 1952, Bud moved his small family to Columbus to work at Kosch's Manufacturing, a newly expanded farm equipment company. Bud worked nearly 40 years for Kosch's with some breaks to return to the carpentry trade.

With help from family and friends, Bud built his family home in Columbus on 8th Street. He and Marcie lived there for over 60 years and raised all seven of their children there. Bud and Marcie were proud of their children and their large extended family. He and Marcie attended St. Anthony's parish.

After Bud retired from Kosch's the last time, he opened his own workshop sharpening saw and mower blades Siemeks Sure Shot Saw Sharpening. Before fully retiring earlier this year at 89, Bud dispensed much sage advice to his family, his new and old friends, and to his customers effectively solving most of the problems of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Beverly Bomar of Jacksonville Florida and grandson-in-law Christopher Rudloff of Omaha. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcie, and children Vern (Willa) Siemek of Omaha, Tim (Connie) of Omaha, Keith Siemek of Omaha, Ken (Deb) Siemek of Lincoln, Al (Amy) Siemek of Omaha, Pegg (Jeff) Siemek-Asche of Omaha, son-in-law Nolan Bomar of Jacksonville, sister-in-law Dolores Korger of Shelby and 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, a niece and two nephews.
