Alphonse died Sunday at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Alphonse L. Starzec was born October 6, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Stanley and Mary (Jarosz) Starzec. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from August 1941 - August 1945 where he was awarded the Bronze Star. On February 25, 1946 Alphonse was united in marriage to Oliveria M. Paprocki at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Alphonse farmed, owned Duraclean carpet cleaners and managed the V.F.W. in Columbus until retirement. After retiring he drove the van for Region IV for several years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Holy Name, Knights of Columbus #9264, lifetime member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion, American Legion Honor Guard, lifetime member of V.F.W. #3704 and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and playing cards.
