Alice Zimmerman died Thursday, August 7, 2014 in St. Edward, NE.
Alice Lena Zimmerman was born February 6, 1911 in rural Polk County to Louis and Lena (Zyback) Hecker. She was the youngest of 6 Children. Alice attended grade school at District 18 (the Ball School) in Polk County. In 1924 the family moved to Columbus, NE where she graduated from Kramer High School in 1929. The family were members of the United Methodist Church. On October 16, 1935, Alice was united in marriage to Fred Zimmerman at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. To this union, 2 children were born, a son Gerald Zimmerman and a daughter Leona Drawl. The couple farmed in rural Polk County, near Silver Creek for two half years. They moved to rural Monroe in March of 1939. They farmed their entire married life. Fred and Alice worked together on the farm. She also raised a garden and canned many vegetables. Alice lived on the farm until moving to the Homestead Assisted Living in Norfolk to be close to her son. In July of 2005 she moved to the Clover Lodge Care Center in St. Edward where she was close to her daughter. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.
