Alice Jarecki

Alice M. Jarecki, 92, of Platte center died Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 Thursday, September 10 at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. Visitation is on Wednesday from5-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Vigil service, all at the church in Platte Center. Visitation continues on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Interment is in St. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery.

Alice was born May 26, 1934 in Platte Center to John and Balbina (Koziol) Matya. She attended Platte Center Schools. On October 16, 1952, she married Lous Jarecki. Alice was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she held many roles in St. Ann’s Sodality and in the Parish life.

Alice found joy in gardening, flowers, birds, butterflies, polka music, and spending time in her kitchen. Her cooking and baking were especially loved by her family. These loves and talents were shared and passed down to her children and grandchildren, who will carry those pieces of her with them.

She especially treasured her two trips to Italy, and being able to meet St. John Paul II.

She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne (Darwin) Sieh of Columbus, Renee Jarecki, Apostolic Oblate of Fullerton, CA, and daughter-in-law Ileana Jarecki of Columbus; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandsons, and two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by parents John and Bell Matya; husband Louis; son Kevin; grand-daughter Brenda Sieh; and 9 siblings.

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are encouraged to St. Joseph Church or to St. Jude’s National Research Hospital.
