Alan Mann, age 48, of Columbus died Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Alan Mann was born May 9, 1961 in Wayne, Nebraska to Lowell and Lorraine (Nickols) Mann, formally of Wayne, He was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. In December 1965, the family moved to Fremont where Alan started school. In 1967 the family moved to Columbus where Alan was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He played football for Columbus High School and graduated in 1979 with a ROTC Scholarship. In 1984 he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a Second Lieutenant in the US Marines and two weeks later left for Quantico, VA
During his military career he was at Camp Pendleton, Twenty Nine Palms, Camp Lejeune, the Philippines, Thailand, Okinawa, Aleution Islands, Tasmania, Korea and Japan. During his time in Barstow, CA he obtained his masters degree in criminal justice from the University of California.
On June 18, 1991 before leaving for Okinawa, Alan married Deserae Wolberd of Fontana, CA at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, NV. When he returned home in 1992 they renewed their vows with a Garden Wedding in Rialto, CA. He was then sent Marine Corp Headquarters in Arlington, VA and later to Quantico, VA where he spent the rest of his military time until 1999 when he was discharged as a Captain in the US Marines. At this time Alan , his wife and three daughters moved back to Colmbus and he was once again able to enjoy his Nebraska football games. In 2001 they bought Maynards. Alan also went to Iraq as a civilian advisor serving 1 year and three months.
