Adeline Lamb

Adeline C. Lamb, the Widow of Orville C. Lamb, received into Heaven March 8 in Waverly, at the age of 89.
Adeline was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Silver Creek, to William Leith (formerly VonderLieth) and Ever Ann (Dickson) Leith. Adeline graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1940, and commenced a 40 year, approximately 1000 pupil, elementary education career at age 18. She taught rural schools in Nebraska and Iowa for about 14 years, her daughter, Sue, a student for 3 years. Having taught one year in the 1950s, in Silver Creek, she did finish her last 25 years in Silver Creek, staying in First
Grade for 23 years. She attended college in Central City and Kearney, where she met Orville. They corresponded for over two years while Orville served in the Army Air Corp in England. Adeline never forgot the dozen roses she
received for her Dec. birthday from her distant Orville. When he returned in 1946, she left the Cadet Nursing Program halfway through because of her choice to marry, on May 3, 1947. They had one child, Sue Ann Dolsky (James)
of Lincoln, in 1956. Attending night classes one, sometimes two nights a week, and two to three weeks in summers at Midland Lutheran College, Adeline taught full time, and earned a bachelors degree in 1971. Orville and Sue accompanied her to night school during those years, a 150 mile round trip. She and Orville were fixtures at Silver Creek athletic events for many years.She enjoyed traveling with Orville and Sue all over the U.S.A. and Canada. They visited relatives and friends in most of the states. Highlights were the Seattle Worlds Fair, and the Vancouver Worlds Fair. Baseball games: Mariners, Dodgers, Yankees, Angels, Tacoma Rainiers, Cedar Rapids Giants, Padres (Adeline helped Orville snag a home run), Royals,
Winnipeg Gold Eye, Salt Dogs, Salt Lake City Stingers. Their great annual event was the College World Series, where they were found every June in Sect.K, Row 2, Seats 7 and 8. She first flew at 77 and enjoyed trips to Alaska and to visit relatives, and to bowling tournaments. She was a lifetime member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 263. She proudly belonged to the NEA and encouraged new educators to join. She voted in every election since 1942, including 16 presidential to 2008, and many of those years, worked at the poll. She was one of the first two women to serve jury duty in Merrick County, in the 40s when ladies facilities were built. She was active in 4-H, assisting children through sewing, baking, and canning projects, and teaching children to knit and crochet. She was proud to have crocheted Sues wedding gown in about 4 months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Alvin Roth; brother,Lester, in infancy; brother, Martin, in 1943, lost at sea with the USN; brother, Harvey; sisters, Mildred Richardson, and Dorothy Whitaker; and
brothers-in-law, Floyd Lamb, Russell Sherman and Louis Weber.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and James Dolsky, of Lincoln; brother-in-law, William Whitaker, of Sacramento; sisters-in-law, Doris Sherman, and LaVonne Weber, of San Diego; Pamela Beldon (Ray), of
Tacoma; brothers-in-law, Dean (Kathy), and Darren (Sherry) Lamb, of Tacoma; step-sister-in-law, Delores Keeton, of Tacoma; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
