Adela T. Zach

October 29, 1934 — November 16, 2018

Adela Theresa Zach, 84, of Humphrey, NE died surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Countryside Home in Madison, NE.

Adela was born October 30, 1934 in Osmond, NE to Henry and Margareth (Frickenstein) Krienert. She was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She grew up with her five sisters in Osmond and attended school there. She later received her GED from Humphrey High School.

Adela met Ferdinand A. Zach, the love of her life in 1954 on August 24th. They were engaged on December 24th, and married on May 24th, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Osmond, NE. They lived in Omaha for several years after their marriage before moving to Humphrey to raise their thirteen children.

Adela was well known for her feisty but generous personality. She had a work ethic that was beyond reproach. In addition to working the night shift for many years, Adela conquered the constant Mount Everest of laundry generated by her five daughters and eight football-playing sons. She spent a fair amount of time in the kitchen cooking family meals and making her famous cinnamon rolls and kolaches which she baked every Saturday morning for her baker's dozen of children, local priests, convent, neighbors, and nursing homes. She loved gardening in her multiple gardens and numerous pots where her flowers bloomed brightening up their home and entire yard. Her creative skills shone the brightest during the holidays where she loved to decorate her family home as if Santa's sleigh crashed directly in the living room. She made their house a home full of love, laughter, and lasting faith.

Every day, she would call sweet nothings to Ferd across the room, such as, Ferd! Wake up! You're snoring! to which he would respond by complimenting her shoes. Conversations with each other and the ongoing stories regaled by her children kept her entertained through many family gatherings. Her devotion to God, her children, and her husband was immeasurable. The loss of their beloved daughter Susan brought them closer together in faith as a couple and as a family. Every evening without fail, after sitting down for a family meal and conversation, they gathered on their knees for their nightly prayers.

Throughout the years, the Zach family grew. To Adela's great delight, she was blessed with twenty-four grandchildren even more entertaining and loving than she could imagine (some of which she fed solid food long before their parents or Dr. Spock said was appropriate) but everyone accepted that Adela knew best. She had an innate understanding of children and if she could not be found, she was likely somewhere rocking the babies, on the floor with the toddlers, or sneaking goodies to the older kids.

She loved being with her children and grandchildren, but together with Ferd is where Adela most loved to be. They traveled to many locations around the country and the world. No matter where their travels took them, whether a tourist destination or the streets of the Humphrey, they were always seen walking hand in hand.

After many years of hard work, she retired from Sherwood Medical in Norfolk. She was a member of St. Francis Church, Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, and the Red Hat Club.
