Vincent H. Mausbach, age 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Schuyler Beverly Golden Living Center in Schuyler, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at St. Isidores Catholic Church with Father Joe Miksch officiating. Visitation is from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at St. Isidores Catholic Church followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. and the Rosary and vigil service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial with full military honors is in All Saints Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska.

Vincent Mausbach was born on November 15, 1919, at the family farm in rural Humphrey, Nebraska. One of eight children born to Agnes (Pillen) and Henry Mausbach, he hired out as a farm laborer in Iowa at the age of 13 before enlisting in the United States Air Corp on January 30, 1942. He completed basic training at Sheppard Field in Texas and then was transferred to Sarasota, Florida, where he served in the Mess Division of the 322nd Headquarters Squadron before being transferred to the 8th Air Force, 340th Bomb Squadron, 97th Bomb Group in England. Four months later, he was transferred to the 15th Air Force in North Africa for one year before being transferred to Foggia, Italy for the remainder of his active duty as a mess sergeant and first cook, serving 400 men per meal and supervising 15 cooks and 10 orderlies. Between 1943 and 1944, Vincent earned the EAME Campaign Ribbon, the Tunisian Battle Star, the Sicilian Battle Star, the Rome-Arno Battle Star, the Air Offensive Europe Battle Star, the Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on June 1, 1945.

On May 27, 1947, Vincent married Floreine Greisen. The couple farmed in the Humphrey/St. Marys area. Vincent was an active member of the rural St. Marys of the Angels Catholic Church, often volunteering help with the maintenance of buildings and grounds. When St. Marys Church closed, he became an active member of Humphreys St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In 1983 he and Floreine retired and moved to Columbus, where they became active members of St. Isidores Catholic Church. Vincent was also an active member of Foltz-Zuerlein American Legion Post #80. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, especially antiques, socializing with his many acquaintances and friends throughout Platte County, dancing to a good polka band, playing a game or two of cards at local establishments, and occasionally testing his luck at a casino.

Mausbach is survived by his wife Floreine of Columbus; daughter Joyce and Leonard Koziol of Norfolk and children Denise and Clint Alderson and Dana and Kevin Oswald all of Omaha; daughter Phyllis and Jim Uchtman of Omaha and children Rebecca Uchtman of Venice, CA, Amanda and Dimetrese Goods of Miami, FL, and Robert and Beverly Uchtman of Omaha; daughter Barbara and Dennis Duffy of Columbus and children Erin Duffy and fiance Kirk Malzer of Lincoln and Michaela Duffy of Columbus; daughter Donna and Jim Crebbin of Phoenix, AZ, and children Clint Crebbin of San Clemente, CA, and Jason Crebbin of Lincoln; son Paul and Marietta Mausbach and children Joseph Mausbach and Emily Mausbach all of Schuyler; daughter Teresa and Keith Kathol and children Ashley Kathol and Brandon Kathol all of Omaha; and brother James Mausbach and sister Mary Ann Fuchs both of Columbus.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Francis and Joseph Mausbach; sisters Margaret Magsamen, Esther Fyfe, and Irene Moran, and granddaughter Suzanne Koziol.
