Laddie J. Markytan, age 87, of Columbus died Monday, December 13, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2004 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Tom Weisbecker & Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is after 3:00 p.m. Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Bonaventure Church or Scotus Central Catholic School.
Laddie J. Markytan was born October 29, 1917 in Howells to Dominick & Anna (Vach) Markytan. He graduated from high school in Howells in 1936. He married Marie Korte on April 12, 1939 in West Point, Nebraska. Laddie worked as a freight agent for Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, perpetual adoration since 1978, helped serve funeral masses, Knights of Columbus Council 938, Lions Club, Old Timers Club, Morse Telegraph Club, Eagles Club, and was a member of the City Planning Commission. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, collecting coins and was a big Nebraska sports fan.
