Victoria Malek, age 94, of Columbus died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Schuyler Nursing Center. Funeral services are 10:30 am Monday, January 21 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Del Lape officiating. Visitation is on Sunday from 3-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a Rosary at 4 pm and a Vigil service at 7:30 pm Sunday, all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Victoria Malek was born December 6, 1909 in Clarks, Nebraska to Charles and Elizabeth (Dush) Starostka. She attended Pleasant Hill School in Clarks. On April 18, 1932 she was united in marriage to Joseph Malek in Clarks. The couple lived in Columbus where Victoria worked at Schwesers for 7 years and then at Becton-Dickinson for 17 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Church, St. Theresa Sodality, Legion Of Mary, 4-H Leader, and the Fair Board. Victoria prayed the rosary every Wednesday with the same group since 1987. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and baking.
