Arthur C. Magnuson, 84, of Columbus, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10:30 am Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Arthur C. Magnuson was born September 8, 1917 in Polk, Nebraska to Arvid and Anna (Johnson) Magnuson. His family moved to Columbus where he attended Columbus Public Schools. He attended aircraft mechanics school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Art worked in Buffalo, New York before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served during WWII from 1942 - 1946 serving stateside and in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Art returned to Columbus in 1947. He married Evelyn Fey on June 30, 1948 in Papillion, Nebraska. Art worked at Behlen Manufacturing from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and Hartman Post #84 American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening.
