Helen Lassek, age 96, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Morys Haven in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday; February 25, 2005 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Del Lape will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue Friday morning 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Helen Anastasia Lassek was born April 12, 1908 on a farm three miles NW of Tarnov, Nebraska to John S.& Katherine (Bogus) Shemek. She was raised in Tarnov where she graduated from St. Michael the Archangel Parochial School. She married Casimir Leonard Lassek on February 10, 1931 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Tarnov. Helen and her husband lived and farmed in the Fullerton, Genoa, Polk County, Tarnov, Duncan, and Columbus areas throughout their life before retiring to Columbus in 1972. Helen was a homemaker and worked as a waitress for 17 years at various places. She was a member and did volunteer work at St. Anthony Catholic Church and belonged to St. Theresa Sodality. She enjoyed collecting glass antiques and going to auction/garage sales.
