Phillip J. Laska, age 79, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Schuyler, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Del Lape officiating. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Wednesday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the All Saints Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Phillip John Laska was born June 7, 1925 in rural Silver Creek, Nebraska to Charles and Catherine (Stanczyk) Laska. He attended schools in Krakow and District #16 in Polk County. Phillip served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 - 1952. Following the service he farmed with his parents in Polk County. On October 6, 1973 he was united in marriage to Sophia Placzek at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Phillip worked for B - D Construction for many years until retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony Church and the Holy Name Society.
