SPC Blake C. Kelly, age 21, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday July 29, 2003 in Bosnia. An outdoor Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 6, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Pilzno, 1740 140th road, rural Osceola, Nebraska with the Reverend Thomas McGuire officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby, Nebraska. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church - Pilzno.
Blake C. Kelly was born May 7, 1982 at Butler County Hospital in David City to Randy & Patty (Bock) Kelly. He graduated from Shelby High School in 2001. In high school he was active in music and sports. He attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice where he majored in Livestock Production and was an active member of the Rodeo Club. On September 7, 2002 he married Christina Cyza at St. Mary's Church-Pilzno. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. SPC Blake C. Kelly honorably served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from November 17, 1999 to July 29, 2003. He enlisted into Detachment 1 Troop A 1-167th Cavalry Squadron as a Abrams Tank Systems Maintenance Mechanic. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. His units of assignment included Detachment 1 Troop C and Troop B 1-167th Cavalry Squadron for the Bosnia deployment.
