Arthur E. Jaworski, age 84, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday March 18, 2002 at his home. Services are 10:30 am Thursday March 21 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-9 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post # 84 American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Baseball or to the donor's choice.

Arthur E. Jaworski was born February 11, 1918 in Columbus, Nebraska to Emil and Lena (Ewert) Jaworski. He graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. Art worked various jobs in Columbus before entering the military in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 - 1943. He married Bernice K. Yosten on December 25, 1942 at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Following his discharge from the service the couple made their home in Columbus. He worked for Loup River Public Power and then became a buyer for Becton Dickinson from 1963 - 1976 when he retired. Art became deeply involved in the organized baseball programs of the Legion, as chairman of the American Legion Athletic Committee and later became the first president of the Cornhusker American Legion Baseball League. He helped to organize Legion sponsored youth programs, the Juniors, the First National Bank Blues and the Legion Reds. For many years Art and Bernice helped organize American Legion Baseball programs all over the state. In 2001 Art was inducted in the Columbus Baseball Hall of Fame. Art ran the American Legion from 1948 - 1955 and was Commander of the Legion in 1966. He served on the City of Columbus Board of Parks and Recreational Commissioners from 1970 - 1982. He was a life member of the Hartman Post #84 American Legion, served on the Honor Guard, the Disabled American Veterans Pawnee Chapter #20, 40 & 8 Columbus Voiture 841. Art was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus.
