G. Marie Happ, age 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday August 31, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday September 3, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.
G. Marie Happ was born March 1, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the only child of Harley R. and Goldie E. (Bedell) Parker. She moved with her parents from Ottumwa, Iowa to Rock Island, Illinois. She attended public school in Rock Island graduating in 1936 and attended Business College in Ottumwa. She worked 6 years for the U.S. Department of Justice, Lands Division in Davenport, Iowa and Clinton, Iowa. She also worked at Bowlby's Music House in Rock Island and was secretary to the Chief of Police in Rock Island for 18 years until retiring on October 1, 1971. She married Henry J. Happ on December 23, 1952 in Rock Island, Illinois. Henry also retired on October 1, 1971 from International Harvester Farmall Works at which time the family moved to Columbus, Nebraska. Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. Bonaventure Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Theresa (Jerry) Hilton of Columbus, Nebraska and Lisa Aldrete of Waterford, New York; granddaughters, Patricia Wielgus of Omaha, Nebraska and Katie Hilton of Columbus, Nebraska; grandson, Greg (Shannon) Wielgus of Fredericksburg, Virginia and a great grandson, Dallas Higginbotham.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Henry Happ on September 26, 1989 and a granddaughter, Mae Ann Wielgus.
