Velma V. Goering, age 87, of Platte Center, Nebraska died Wednesday February 20, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday February 23, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church Grand Prairie in rural Platte Center, Nebraska with Reverend Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Church. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday also at the church.
Velma V. Goering was born March 24, 1914 in Platte Center, Nebraska to George and Ida (Lutjens) Kallweit. She graduated from Platte Center High School in 1932. On March 1, 1938 Velma was united in marriage to Milton H. Goering at Zion Lutheran Church - Grand Prairie. The couple lived & farmed near Platte Center. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Velma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Upper Ten Extension Club. Velma enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking and writing. She provided flowers for the alter at Zion Lutheran Church for many years.
