Funeral Service
Sign First Condolence

Wayne A. Gertsch, age 80, of Columbus, died Saturday; April, 21, 2001 at the Columbus Comunity Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday; April 25 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church will the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Interment with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-9 at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Wayne was born October 19, 1920 in Creston, Nebraska to Calvin & Mattie (Pilling) Gertsch.
He married Carolyn Eva Laudenklaus on September 20, 1944 at Brownwood, Texas.
He received his education at District #8 in Colfax County and at Kramer High School in Columbus. He worked as a farm hand prior to joining the U.S. Army in September 1942 where he was assigned to the 13th Armoured Division and received his training at Camp Walters, Texas. He spent a year in Germany 1945-46 receiving his discharge as a Cpl. Sgt on February 26, 1946. Folowing his discharge from the service he was employed for 25 years by the Bertchold Cattle Company and 10 years by Behlen Manufacturing. After his retirement he was self employed as an auto mechanic.

Wayne was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, step mother, foster grandparent:Mary E. Welch, an infant sister, one brother: Clyde Gertsch, one step-sister: Margaret Schepler, one brother-in-law: Joseph Laudenklaus
