Mabel George, 82, of Columbus died Tuesday, August 29 at the Hospice House of Omaha. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Bringewatt will officiate. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.

Mabel Ann George was born March 2, 1924 in Buffalo County on a farm north of Riverdale, Nebraska to Christ and Minnie (Raup) Schake. She was baptized and then was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney, Nebraska. Mabel graduated from Riverdale High School in 1940. She attended Kearney State College and taught in several rural schools in Buffalo County including Glenwood School, Midway and District #87. She also taught in the Lexington City Schools for two years. On June 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to Kenneth G. George in Lexington. To this union five children were born. They moved to Columbus, Nebraska in April 1958. Mabel worked at Montgomery Ward for 8 1/2 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.

Brother: Harvey (Diane) Schake of Hardin, MT
Sister-In-Law: Marian Schake of Amherst, NE
Sister: Lora Swearingen of Kimball, NE
13- Grandchildren 1-Great Grandchild
