Leonard Feehan, age 93, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday March 5,2006 at his home. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday March 9, 2006 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Bonaventure Church. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home.
Leonard Feehan was born March 17, 1912 in Spalding, NE to James and Mabel (Leonard) Feehan. In 1919 he moved with his parents to Greeley, NE. He attended St. Josephs Academy, OConnor, where he graduated from high school in 1929. After leaving Greeley in 1937 he resided in Northern Illinois and Grand Island before coming to Columbus in 1948 where he was employed by Cornhusker Public Power District for 8 years.
Leonard married Cecelia Williams on Nov. 16, 1949 at St. Marys Cathedral in Grand Island. He and his wife owned and operated the Cottonwood Grove Tavern for seven years and were partners in Williams Brothers Fash-n-Fab and Williams Bros. Mens wear from 1963 until the time of his retirement in 1986. Leonard was active in the Knights of Columbus organization for many years: He joined the Knights on December 7, 1947 at Grand Island, NE. He served as Grand Knight of the Columbus Council No. 938 from 1954-1956. He then served the State Council as Council Activity Director, Publicity Director, State Treasurer and State Secretary before being elected State Deputy in1966, serving until1968. He then served as Ceremonial Chairman for the State Council for 10 years. In 1979 he was appointed by the Supreme Council Knights of Columbus as Vice Supreme Master of the Fourth Degree for the Father Padilla Province. He served in this until 1985. He also served as Financial Secretary of the Columbus Council for 35 years from January 1, 1957 until December 31, 1991.
A member of St. Bonaventure Parish since 1950, Leonard served as an usher, trustee, lector, daily Mass server and was a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. He was one of the first laypersons to represent the parish on the Scotus Board of Education. He was also a member of the Scotus Shamrock Athletic Club from the time it was organized in the 1950s and was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.
