Oscar A. Ewert, age 95, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral Service is at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006 at St. Lukes Congregational Church. Visitation is Sunday 4-7 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at St. Lukes Church. Interment is in Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to St. Lukes or Gruetli Church.
Oscar August Ewert was born January 18, 1911 in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska to Carl and Minnie (Hake) Ewert. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial and Columbus Public schools graduating from Kramer High School in 1929. He also attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. On June 3, 1937 he married Dorothy Ida Tiaden at Gruetli Church near Duncan. Oscar served in the U.S. Army Infantry at Camp Roberts, California, during WWll from 1943 1946. He returned to Columbus where he co-operated and owned the Pawnee Service Station then Ewert Service Station with his brother Walt. Oscar later sold insurance as an independent agent under the name Metco Loan Co. until retirement. He was a member of St. Lukes Church & Brotherhood, Gideons, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion, Hartman Post #84, and Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and playing cards. He was best known for his sense of humor delivering his one-liners and joke for the day.
Oscar is survived by two daughters, Donna (Dennis) Dubsky of Columbus, and Dianne (Lyle) Lingenfelter of Plainview, NE; one brother, Carl E. Ewert of Litchfield Park, AZ; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; Scott (Denise) Dubsky & Sara of Schuyler, Vicki (Paul) Duin, Jessica & Jimmy of Gretna, Suzanne (Ben) Velinsky, Izabella & Wyatt of Lincoln, Calvin (Christina) Laible, Abby & Connor of Lincoln, Carolyn Laible of Omaha, Natalie Lingenfelter of Plainview; and two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; Chad (Cindy) Lingenfelter, Dylan & Emily, Sullivan, IN, and Nick (ReBecca) Lingenfelter & Peyton of Plainview; and several In-Laws, Edna & Don Bilodeau of Chetek, Wisconsin, Quentin & Elaine Tiaden, Lil Meedel, Wilma Killham and Helen Tiaden all of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married for sixty-seven years until her death on February 22,2005; his parents Carl F. & Minnie Ewert; two brothers, George & Walt Ewert; three sisters, Esther Honath, Margaret Ahrens & Eleanor Berchtold.
Pallbearers are Scott Dubsky, Paul and Jim Duin, Ben Velinsky, Calvin Laible, Chad and Nick Lingenfelter.
