Delbert (Del) Dean Engquist, age 72, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at his home after a courageous fight with lung cancer surrounded by his devoted loving wife and family. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Federated Church in Columbus with the Reverend Dr. Jim Wooten officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Thursday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Federated Church. Burial is in the Columbus Cemetery.

Del was born June 15, 1935 in Fremont, Nebraska to Swan P. and Anna Marie (Speck) Engquist. He attended and graduated from Fremont High School. Del married Donna Zrust on February 8, 1959 in Fremont. Del was a professional painter, wallpaper hanger, and wood-finisher for over 50 years in the Columbus area. He loved spending time with his family, friends and especially his 12 grandchildren and his 2 grand-dogs. He enjoyed time at his cabin, bowling, playing cards, casino trips, car races, and telling jokes and stories.


He will be deeply missed by his family, which includes his wife Donna; 4 children: Dave and Rita (Koziol) Engquist, Denise and Reuben Hughes, Dean and Laura (Bierman) Engquist and Diane and Daniel "Bubba" Bryant all of Columbus; 12 grandchildren: Amy and Kelly Engquist; Nikki, Chance, Shelby, and Parker Hughes; Jason, Ashley Mundil (Jordan), Vanessa, Tori, Colby and Leah Engquist; In-laws: Rudy and Carol Zrust, Pat and Larry Sadd, Don and Karen Zrust; 2 Sisters: Thelma Stoltenberg of Fremont, Nebraska and Bernice Buis of Lincoln, Nebraska; many Nieces and Nephews.


Del was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers; Oliver, Wesley, Donald, Calvin, Spencer and Les; 3 Sisters: Mildred Cunningham, Gertrude Frizzell and Mayetta Harris; 2 Nephews: Truman Engquist and Bruce Engquist.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be used as a memorial tribute in honor of this very special man.
