Dick E. Elwood, age 79, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, June 20, 2005 in his home after a courageous fight with cancer. Memorial Services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005 at the Federated Church in Columbus with Reverend Don Wilson officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers please consider supporting the Hospice of Columbus Community Hospital or the Federated Church of Columbus.
Dick E. Elwood was born December 6, 1925 in Red Oak, Iowa to Gifford Grant and Minnie Merle (Spicer) Elwood. He graduated from Red Oak High School and earned his BS degree in Agriculture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1950. Prior to graduation he served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and then was recalled to active duty in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Ruth DeSmidt on January 9, 1946 at the Congregational Church in Humboldt, Iowa. Dick worked for Behlen Steel early in his career and retired as a Credit Manager with Contech Construction Products, Inc. of Ohio in 1990. He was a member of the Federated Church.

Brother: Jim Elwood of Wichita, KS
Lifelong friend and cousin: Phil Spicer of Aurora, CO
He was preceded by his parents Gifford Grant "Dick" and Merle Elwood and two brothers Grant and Leo Elwood.
