Edwin John Behlen, age 84, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus with Pastor Mike Neely and Pastor Ken Taylor officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Wednesday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. with a 10:15 a.m. Family Prayer Service at the church. Burial is in the Zion Lutheran - Grand Prairie Cemetery near Platte Center, Nebraska.

Edwin John Behlen was born July 21, 1922 to John and Mary (Hanssen) Behlen in rural Platte County. He attended District 77 School and then worked on the family farm. During World War II he worked at the Frye Aircraft Company in Omaha and then returned to Columbus. Ed worked at Gerholds and then at Behlen Manufacturing Company as a construction engineer for 25 years traveling internationally. After retirement Ed enjoyed self-employment as a craftsmen/carpenter with E-B Woodcrafters.

Ed attended Highland Park Free Church and lived a life honoring to God. He has now gone home to be with the Lord. Ed will be remembered as a Godly and loving husband, father and friend.

Ed is survived by his wife; Betty (Janssen) Behlen, a daughter; Barb (Warren) Raymer, a son; Dennis (Lynn) Behlen, four step children; Dan Janssen, Darla (Tom) Neemeyer, Nancy (Tim) Neemeyer, Brenda (Mike) Bieck.

Grandchildren: Gina (Scott) Borer, Molly (Tim) Mohrmann, Jason (Sara) Neemeyer, Natalie (Corey) Rieck, Paige Behlen, Penny (Chad) Rausch, Joe (Kristi) Neemeyer, Sarah (Justin) Dewey, Katie (Brad) Loseke, Joyce (Ryan) Laue, Alec (Krista) Bieck, Ashley (Jacob) Podliska, Ryan Neemeyer, Lacee Neemeyer.

Great Grandchildren: Brielyn Borer, Bergen Borer, Justin Mohrmann, Molly Rausch, Lawson Borer, Ethan Neemeyer, Connor Rausch, Caleb Neemeyer, Jade Podliska. Mikayla Loseke, Isabella Neemeyer, Bailey Podliska.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Harvey and Marvin, and a great grandson Joshua Mohrmann.
