Leonard W. Babka of Columbus died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Services are 10:30 am Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Military Honors will be performed by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard, also at the church. Visitation is Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and Thursday 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm Thursday at the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, NE. Memorials are suggested to the donors choice.
Leonard W. Babka was born May 24, 1926 in Belvidere, Nebraska to Fred & Ethel (Van Waning) Babka. He grew up in Belvidere, York, and Columbus. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1944. He entered the US Army Air Corp from 1944-1946 during WWII where he was a Staff Sgt. He was recalled in 1950 until 1951 during the Korean Conflict, He married Ruth Olson on August 23, 1957 at the Federated Church in Columbus. Leonard was employed as a Corporate Pilot for Habco Mfg., Dale Electronics, and was self-employed as an aerial crop duster. He served on the Airport Authority for 40 years and the Platte County Draft Board. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the First Baptist Church. Leonard enjoyed his daily afternoon Pinochle game at the airport.
