Ronald Edwin Heft was born on November 18th, 1946 and passed away on November 6th, 2017.
Ronald was born to Edwin Harold Heft and Gloria May Whiting of Primrose, Ne on Nov. 18th, 1946. He grew up farming with his family, enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family, which included his parents and 3 siblings: Eva, Janet and Richard. As a young man, still in school, he enjoyed hunting pheasant, quail, and rabbit with his old 12 gauge shot gun and his .22 rifle. He graduated from Primrose Public school in May 1964.
After graduation, he moved to Omaha and worked there until he left for the Navy in California. He was part of the CB crew and was ready to leave for Vietnam when he was honorably discharged due to medical reasons. After he was discharged he worked at an ice cream factory, then met and married Sharlene Stillwell on August 25th, 1967 and then moved back to Nebraska and settled in the Primrose area. There he helped family and friends with farming, mechanic needs and raised 2 children: Linda and Edwin. They lived on the farm until 1978 when they moved to Cedar Rapids. He still farmed and did mechanic work for whoever needed help.
He lived in Cedar until 1985 when he and Sharlene divorced and he moved to Columbus. There he worked for PMC, Pole Maintenance Company and then went to work for Buffalo farm equipment until he retired. He then met and married Edna Neighbors and eventually moved out to the home that they shared for 25 years until her passing in Nov. 2013.
Up until this past June, Ron was an active member of his church, loved to go fishing, spend time with his family and enjoyed his visits from his daughter, son -in-law and grandson, Logan (whom he thought the world of and loved to spoil him when they were down). Ron and his son, Ed would go to the movies, out to dinner and various other things together as much as they could before he got ill.
Some of the things that he loved to do was: be with family, restore farm equipment, create different yard ornaments from iron and welding them together. Many can be seen in his front yard or in family members yards as well. He was always busy doing something or just hanging out at the house with his kitty cats.
This past June Ron had fallen ill and spent time in Columbus Community hospital then to Faith Regional in Norfolk and then spent the past 3 months at the Madonna rehab Center in Omaha until October 30th where he was transferred to a skilled care facility, Azira Health Montclair in Omaha. He then went into cardiac arrest and was transported to Lakeside Hospital and then rejoined his family on Nov. 6th, 2017.
