George Giannou, 83, of Columbus died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Services are 10:30 am Monday, March 10 at McKown Funeral Home with Fr. Chris Margaritas officiating. Visitation is on Sunday from 4-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continues Monday morning from 9:30 am until service time. Interment is in Roselawn Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
George Giannou was born October 30, 1924 in Omaha, NE to Greek immigrants Michael and Stella (Papajohn) Giannou. He grew up in Omaha, with his brother John and sister Penny. The family owned various restaurants and a candy store in Omaha. George enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. He met Helen “Elaine” Giannou and on their first date he asked her to marry him. They were married at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Omaha on November 26, 1961. They moved to Columbus in 1965 where he owned/operated Esquire Barber Shop for over 30 years. George loved bowling, sports and most importantly his family and being with his 7 grand children. He could often be found at Boulevard Lanes, visiting with many friends. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Omaha.

Son Michael (Jenny) Giannou of Omaha
Son John (Cheri) Giannou of Stromsburg
Seven Grandchildren Aaron, Abigail, Nathan, George, Amanda, Gabrielle, and Stephen Giannou
