Donna Jean Palser, 76, of Columbus, Nebraska, formally of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at Brookestone Acres Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation with her family by her side, Wednesday, December 10, 2014.

Donna was born on November 11, 1938, in rural Anthon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles A. and Olive C. (Burke) Newman. She attended the Fair Play Country School near Oto, Iowa; and later went to the Oto Public School.

On February 23, 1955 she married Francis D. (Speed) Bertrand and to this union five children were born, William (Bill), Cynthia (Cindy), Debra (Debi), Victoria (Vickie) and Nancy. In 1970, Donna and Gail Blakely were married and lived in rural Rodney, Iowa. Donna owned and ran the BiRite Grocery Store during that time in Smithland, Iowa. Donna later married Dean Palser in David City, Nebraska on November 1979.

During her lifetime, Donna worked at and managed several restaurants, was a dietician at a nursing home, ran a daycare, was employed at MCI WorldCom, sold Labor Time and Chilton Automotive books and upon her move to Columbus, NE, she worked at the Meridian Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Support.

She is survived by her children; Bill and wife Peggi Bertrand of Boynton Beach, Florida, Cindy and husband Gary Flammang of Smithland, Iowa, Debi and husband Patrick McCloskey of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Vickie and husband Dean Howell of Watford City, North Dakota, and Nancy and husband Daniel Steiner of Shelby, Nebraska; one sister, Jeanette Kelsey of Smithland, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, brother James and his wife Maxine Newman, brother-in-law Deane Kelsey, sister Dorothy and her husband Richard Kahabka.
