Chuck Sand died peacefully November 15, 2012 at Columbus Community Hospital surrounded by family.

Charles W. Sand, Jr. (Chuck) was born September 26th, 1943 to Charles W. Charlie and Angela (Preister) Sand in Columbus and was raised in Lindsay, Nebraska. He married Carol Luetkenhaus on October 9, 1965 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska. The couple lived in Lincoln while Chuck worked at the Lincoln Journal as a pressman.

In 1970, Chuck and Carol moved to Columbus after establishing Sand Construction Company which later became known as Sand Livestock Systems, Inc. Chuck was involved in numerous businesses over the years and was inducted into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame in 2000.
He was a pioneer of swine production technology and was one of the first companies to joint venture into the Peoples Republic of China.

Chuck was an enthusiastic big-game hunter and his travels took him to Africa, Alaska, Canada, Spain and throughout the US. He holds numerous world-record book game trophies.
He was active for many years on the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and with the Scotus Endowment.
Despite all of his world travels and business successes, those who knew him best realize his most valued time was spent with his large family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Sand, his father-in-law, Frank Luetkenhaus, and his mother-in-law, Nora Luetkenhaus.

Chucks survivors include wife, Carol Sand of Columbus; mother, Angela Sand of Columbus; son Mike (Brenda) Sand and their children Jessica, Elizabeth & Toby of Columbus; daughter Michelle (Brad) Stirek and their sons Seth, Drew & Ian of Columbus; daughter Nicole (Justin) Vossen and their children Max & Kate of Omaha; sisters Susan Brandt of Columbus, Mary (Dick) Nathan of Blair, Charlene (Gary) Yindrick of David City, Danette (Lowell) Stone of St. Edward; and numerous nieces and nephews.
