Elizabeth Egger died Thursday, June 2 at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.

Elizabeth S. Egger was born February 1, 1907 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Adolph and Mary (Schumacher) Liebig. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Platte Center in 1924. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and Midland College from which she earned a Junior First Grade State Certificate in 1934 which remained in force for life as she continued her education in Kearney and Fremont. Her early teaching years were in rural Platte County where she commuted to school often by horse back. She taught for 10 years in rural schools and taught one of the editors of Time Magazine, who wrote a tribute to her in one of his editorials.
Elizabeth was united in marriage to Bert Egger on June 8, 1937 at Platte Center. They farmed for over 40 years. She taught second grade at St. Bonaventure School for 17 years often holding summer school at the farm so students could continue to the next grade. She substitute taught till she was 80 years old. Elizabeth was active in the Church. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing suits and formals. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Many of her elegant pieces were given to friends and family. An excellent cook, she always provided a meal for family and friends after a card game or visit. Bert and Elizabeth moved to Columbus in 1996. She moved to Cloverlodge in 2006 when Alzheimer's disease robbed her of memory and the ability to live independently. Even then her concern for others was apparent as she encouraged others that "They would get better soon".
